Description
OpenWind is a solar-powered wind measurement instrument that uses Bluetooth 5.0, with a maximum range of 50 meters when the signal is unobstructed. The Bluetooth antenna is oriented downward from the device, which provides better range when mounted higher on the vessel. Note that older smartphone models and hard cases may reduce the effective connectivity range.
OpenWind measures AWA/AWS, compass, and pitch/roll, and our application calculates COG, SOG, VMG, AWD, TWA, TWD, and TWS.
Broadcast Signal
Only one device can connect to the OpenWind instrument at a time. This connected device can send data back and calibrate the sensors. However, multiple devices can simultaneously read the broadcast signal.
With the OpenWind broadcast signal, you and your crew can access wind data on a smartphone, tablet, smartwatch, or NMEAkit™ simultaneously.
Depending on the device, broadcast reading may not be possible, and Bluetooth connectivity range may also be affected. We recommend using recent models of smartphones, tablets, and smartwatches.
